PM Modi to inaugurate power projects worth Rs 28,978 Crore

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate several significant power projects on February 3, 2024, including the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW), NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project (1×250 MW), and the laying of the foundation stone for NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2×660 MW), representing a total investment of Rs 28,978 Crore.

During a media briefing held on Thursday in Bhubaneswar, Shri Sudip Nag, Regional Executive Director of Eastern Region I & II, highlighted the upcoming developmental power projects to be initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Darlipali STPP, situated in the Sundargarh district of Odisha, operates as a pit-head Power Station utilizing Supercritical Technology, efficiently supplying low-cost power to beneficiary states such as Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Sikkim.

Meanwhile, the 250 MW project of NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd is established within the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to ensure reliable power supply crucial for the steel plant’s economic growth.

Furthermore, NTPC is spearheading the development of the Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III, situated within the premises of the old TTPS plant in the Angul district of Odisha. Acquired by NTPC from the Odisha State Electricity Board in 1995, the old TTPS plant, having served the nation for over 50 years, has been decommissioned. The upcoming plant will feature highly efficient Ultra Super Critical Technology-based units with a capacity approximately three times that of the old TTPS plant. While 50% of the capacity from this project is dedicated to Odisha, other beneficiary states including Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Assam will also receive low-cost power from this pit-head station.

These projects are constructed with advanced environmental features such as efficient electrostatic precipitators, flue gas desulphurization, biomass cofiring, and covered storage space for coal, resulting in reduced Specific Coal Consumption and CO2 emissions.

Additionally, these projects have led to the creation of direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region and contributed to the enhancement of physical infrastructure including approach roads, drainage systems, transportation, and communication facilities. NTPC is also engaged in various community development initiatives in surrounding villages, focusing on education, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, women’s empowerment, rural sports, etc. Notably, NTPC has established a Medical College cum Hospital in Sundargarh, Odisha.

The press conference was attended by Shri Diwakar Kaushik, CEO of NSPCL, Shri Gautam Deb, Executive Director of Talcher Thermal, Shri Harjit Singh, Executive Director of Corporate Communications in New Delhi, Shri Ashok Kumar Sehgal, Business Unit Head of Talcher Kaniha, Shri Harsha Nath Chakraborty, Business Unit Head of Darlipali, Shri Rajnish Rastogi, CGM(HR) of ER-II HQ, Shri Tridib Dev, GM(OS) of NSPCL, and Shri Veerandra Singh, Regional Officer of NHAI.
