Naveen Jindal Assumes New Role As President Of Indian Steel Association

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Naveen Jindal, the Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power, has been unanimously chosen as the President of the Indian Steel Association (ISA) by the Apex Committee, the governing body of ISA. He assumed the role of President from Dilip Oommen, CEO of AMNS India and Executive Vice President of Arcelor Mittal, on March 21, 2024. Previous Presidents of ISA include Sajjan Jindal, CMD of JSW Steel, and T. V. Narendran, MD and CEO of Tata Steel.

The Apex Committee commended Dilip Oommen’s leadership during his tenure as President, particularly in navigating the industry through various critical challenges.

Naveen Jindal, also the Chairman of Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), a leading Indian industrial conglomerate with interests in steel, mining, and infrastructure, is a well-known figure in Indian industry and philanthropy. Notably, he successfully advocated for the “Right to display the national flag on all days” as a Fundamental Right after a decade-long legal battle. Additionally, he served two terms in the Indian Parliament, totaling ten years.

Commenting on the importance of the steel industry for India’s development goals, Jindal emphasized the need for simultaneous growth in steel, its upstream, and downstream manufacturing value chains. He highlighted the significant challenge of decarbonization as a crucial initiative for environmental preservation, noting the steel industry’s commitment to reducing carbon footprints in line with the Prime Minister of India’s global commitments. Jindal emphasized the pivotal role of the Indian steel industry in the nation’s economic landscape, with profound impacts across sectors and society.
