Semiconductor Industry Expected To Generate One Lakh Jobs: Expert
Bhubaneswar: Raghu Panicker, a distinguished figure in the realm of semiconductors, articulated a compelling vision for India’s semiconductor landscape during a lecture at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), under the aegis of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA). He illuminated the anticipated surge in job opportunities, foreseeing the industry’s potential to generate over 100,000 employment prospects within the country’s borders in the foreseeable future.
As the CEO of Kaynes SemiCon Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Panicker underscored the pivotal role of Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) in India’s semiconductor sector, emphasizing its transformative impact on the industry.
He expounded on the government’s proactive stance, anticipating a substantial economic boost through the creation of these job opportunities, catalyzing the development of the semiconductor ecosystem.
Mr. Panicker delved into the technical intricacies, emphasizing the significance of both OSAT and the Advanced Testing and Manufacturing Process (ATMP), highlighting their potential to fortify India’s technical ecosystem. Drawing upon India’s illustrious track record in the services sector, he referenced industry stalwarts such as TCS, Infosys, HCL, and WIPRO, accentuating the nation’s prowess in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), complemented by its reputation as a design powerhouse and the presence of globally esteemed universities.
In positioning Kaynes SemiCon Pvt. Ltd as a cornerstone of the OSAT domain, Mr. Panicker portrayed the company as a frontrunner poised to lead the semiconductor sector’s evolution from silicon to system integration. He illuminated India’s digital landscape, showcasing remarkable statistics including the substantial number of broadband subscribers and Aadhar registrations, alongside the burgeoning market for industrial automation poised to reach a valuation of 29 billion dollars.
Expounding on the intricacies of the global semiconductor supply chain, Mr. Panicker delineated its various stages, from initial design and manufacturing to the crucial OSAT/ATMP processes, ultimately culminating in end-product delivery and consumption. Highlighting the projected surge in market share for electric two-wheelers, he forecasted a remarkable rise from three percent in 2023 to a staggering 45 percent by 2030, thus significantly amplifying the value of the Power Module market.
