Manorama Mohanty Takes Charge As New Director Of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar:  Dr. Manorama Mohanty has taken charge as the new Director at the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, succeeding HR Biswas. Previously serving as the Head of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ahmedabad, Dr. Mohanty’s elevation to the S grade accompanies her new appointment. The Ministry of Earth Science has officially announced this change.

Simultaneously, HR Biswas, the former Director of the regional meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, has been transferred to IMD, Kolkata.

A native of Odisha, Dr. Mohanty joined the India Meteorological Department after completing postgraduate in Physics from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

Her notable contributions include playing a pivotal role in accurately predicting various calamities, particularly tropical cyclones in the Arabian Sea affecting Gujarat. She is acknowledged for her precise forecasts of powerful cyclones such as ‘Tauktae’ and ‘Biparjoy’ in the Arabian Sea.
