Kho Kho Season 2: Chennai Quick Guns To Take On Gujarat Giants In Final
Cuttack: Chennai Quick Guns secured their spot in the Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 final by defeating Telugu Yoddhas 31-29 in a thrilling second semifinal at Cuttack’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday. Their opponents in the final will be Gujarat Giants, who triumphed over defending champions Odisha Juggernauts in the first semifinal. Despite an initial lead by Telugu Yoddhas, Chennai Quick Guns staged a remarkable comeback with an impressive offensive display in the final segment.
Ultimate Kho Kho, the brainchild of Amit Burman in collaboration with the Kho Kho Federation of India, made history as the first Indian sports league to secure Series A funding from the UK-based BNP Group. The semifinals witnessed the presence of notable guests, including Shri VK Pandian, chairman of 5T and Nabin Odisha, Shri Vineel Krishna, Sports Secretary, Odisha, and Nasreen, the Arjuna Award-winning captain of the Indian Kho Kho team.
Shri VK Pandian highlighted Odisha’s commitment to promoting sports, including Kho Kho, by not only participating in Ultimate Kho Kho but also establishing a high-performance center for the sport in collaboration with AM/NS India.
The spotlight initially focused on Ramji Kashyap in Turn 1, but Telugu Yoddhas’ skipper, Pratik Waikar, stole the show with a remarkable performance, scoring ten points for his team. Despite Telugu Yoddhas’ early dominance, Chennai Quick Guns’ attackers, led by Ramji, Vijay Shinde, and Madan, made a strong comeback in Turn 4, securing the points needed for victory.
In the other semifinal, Gujarat Giants secured their place in the final by defeating Odisha Juggernauts 29-27. Gujarat Giants dominated the first half, building a substantial nine-point lead that proved too much for Odisha Juggernauts to overcome, despite an improved performance in the second half. Suyash Gargate and Sanket Kadam were standout attackers for Gujarat Giants.
