IIT Bhubaneswar observes ‘Fit India Week’ with array of sports and fitness activities
Bhubaneswar: IIT Bhubaneswar recently hosted an engaging Fit India Week, spanning from January 15th to 22nd, 2024. The event was commenced with a spirited Mini Marathon on January 15th, flagged off by Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, the Director of the Institute. Shri Bamadev Acharya, the Registrar of IIT, present on the occasion, awarded prizes to the victorious participants.
Throughout the week, a diverse range of sports and fitness activities, such as basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, cricket, lawn tennis, football, and athletics, were meticulously organized. Additionally, a yogathon was conducted, contributing to the holistic nature of the week-long celebration.
The overarching goal behind orchestrating these events was to instill a sense of the importance of health and fitness for an enhanced quality of life among the students and members of the institute. Remarkably, there was substantial participation from students, faculty, and staff, reflecting a collective commitment to the values promoted during the Fit India Week.
This initiative aligns with the broader Fit India Movement initiated by the Union Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs in 2019. The movement’s primary objective is to integrate fitness into our daily lives and catalyze behavioral changes toward a more physically active lifestyle. Educational institutions across the nation, under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, actively participate in this movement, demonstrating considerable enthusiasm during the observation of the Fit India Week.
