Ex-CDPO Convicted In Corruption Case In Bolangir
Bolangir: In a significant development, Suprava Mohapatra, a former Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) who previously held positions in Saintala and Muribahal within Bolangir district, has been handed a substantial sentence of two years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a corruption case.
Mohapatra’s indictment stems from allegations of misappropriation of government funds totaling Rs. 12,43,000, a grave offense for which she was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance department. The case, registered under Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir TR No. 03/2017, cites violations of sections 13(2) and 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in addition to section 409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The charges revolve around Mohapatra’s failure to account for these funds within the official records of her office.
Following a rigorous legal process, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, pronounced Mohapatra guilty of the offenses today. Consequently, she has been sentenced to a two-year period of rigorous imprisonment, coupled with a fine of Rs. 50,000 for each offense. Failure to pay the imposed fine will result in an additional four months of rigorous imprisonment. Importantly, both sentences are to be served concurrently.
In light of Mohapatra’s conviction, the Odisha Vigilance department is poised to take further action. They would approach the appropriate authority to initiate her dismissal from service as the Assistant Project Officer (APO) in Muribahal, Bolangir district.
