ED team Attacked in West Bengal

Kolkata: An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team faced an attack today in the Sandeshkhali area within North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The ED team had reached there to investigate corruption related to the distribution of ration.

The assault occurred when the Enforcement Directorate team arrived at the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Jahan Sheikh. The team was met with hostility, resulting in an attack. Subsequently, Sheikh was arrested in connection with the case.

Reports indicate that a crowd exceeding 200 local residents surrounded the armed paramilitary force accompanying the Enforcement Directorate team. The vehicle used by the ED team was vandalized by the irate crowd. Injuries sustained by ED team officers during the attack necessitated their immediate transport to a hospital.

Sukant Mazumdar, the state BJP chief said “This incident highlights the challenges in maintaining law and order, particularly involving individuals accused of corruption. The ED’s intervention is a natural response.”

In response to the incident, Shubhendu Abhikari, the leader of the opposition in West Bengal, called for a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Team.
