Cyber fraudster swindles Rs 1.61 lakh  through matrimony website, arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have arrested one Nrusingha Pradhan, a cyber fraudster engaged in online scams through a matrimonial website, following a complaint filed by one of his victims. Authorities discovered that Pradhan had created an account on the Bharat Matrimony website using the identity of his wife, Deepa, along with fictitious profile pictures.

Operating under the guise of Deepa, Pradhan initiated conversations with a young man who had expressed interest in the fabricated profile. Initially building a rapport, Pradhan eventually deceived the unsuspecting individual by feigning financial hardships and health issues, coaxing him to send money on three occasions through Gpay.

Despite the monetary transactions, the deceived youth was unable to meet the supposed girl from the matrimonial website. Growing suspicious, he reported the incident to the Cyber Police. Subsequent investigations uncovered Pradhan’s modus operandi, where he impersonated his wife and exploited fake matrimonial profiles to swindle money from unsuspecting victims.

Upon arresting Pradhan, authorities confiscated a SIM card, an ATM card, and Rs 1.61 lakh in cash from his possession. The Commissionerate Police have reached out to the Bharat Matrimony website team for further information, suspecting that Pradhan may have victimized numerous others in a similar fashion.
