Kendrapara: In a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a Digital Skilling Center was inaugurated today in Ramanagar, Mahakalapada block, Kendrapara district. The inauguration ceremony was led by the Chief Guest, Shri Amrit Ruturaj, Collector and District Magistrate, Kendrapara, who also laid the foundation stone for the AM/NS India Industrial Training Institute in Bijaynagar. Notable attendees from AM/NS India included Shri Tomomitsu Inada, Director and Vice President, Technology; Shri T. S. Shanbhogue, Executive Director, Green Field Projects, Odisha; Shri L. C. Mahapatra, Chief Coordinator, Green Field Project; and Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head CSR, among others.

AM/NS India places a strong emphasis on skill development as part of its CSR activities, aiming to address the skill gap in accordance with industry requirements and provide improved employment opportunities for youth, aligning with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat program for self-reliance.

Under the “Daksh” skill development initiative, AM/NS India, in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation, established the Skill Development Centre in Ramanagar. The center focuses on providing IT/ITES skill sector training to local youths in the Kendrapara region. In the initial phase, the plan is to train 200 youths in the Digital Skill Center, offering a 440-hour training program in job roles such as domestic data entry operators and domestic IT help desk attendants.

The training includes both theoretical and practical components, along with industrial visits. Soft skills training is also integrated to enhance employability competencies. Upon completion, trainees will undergo assessments by Sector Skill Council-empanelled agencies and receive training completion certificates with placement opportunities.

AM/NS India, in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation, has successfully operated five centers in other locations, training 1293 educated and unemployed youths, with 906 (71.3%) securing job opportunities.

In an effort to further benefit local educated and unemployed youth, AM/NS India is establishing a residential Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Bijaynagar, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, in partnership with the Directorate of Technical Education & Training (DTET), Government of Odisha.

During the inauguration, Shri Amrit Ruturaj emphasized the importance of skill development for the youth, stating that a developed Kendrapara relies on skilled individuals to fulfill their dreams. Shri Tomomitsu Inada highlighted AM/NS India’s commitment to regional development, with the Digital Skill Centre and ITI in Mahakalapada marking the company’s humble beginning in the region.

Shri T S Shanbhogue, Executive Director, Green Field Projects – Odisha, AM/NS India, expressed the company’s commitment to CSR interventions and the overall development of Kendrapara, recognizing the potential of the local youth and the aim of the Digital Skill Centre and ITI to prepare them for an active role in the region’s development and that of Odisha.
