World Voice Day Observed At Sum Phulnakhara Campus

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of World Voice Day, a comprehensive laryngeal check-up was administered to patients grappling with voice disorders at the Phulnakhara campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital. Spearheaded by the ENT Department of the hospital, this meticulous examination, employing cutting-edge laryngeal endoscopy techniques, facilitated the early detection of vocal cord cancer in select cases, as articulated by Prof. (Dr.) Khageswar Rout, the Head of the ENT Department.

The underlying objective of commemorating World Voice Day was to raise awareness regarding the potential implications of sudden voice alterations, which may signify latent laryngeal malignancies, particularly prevalent among individuals with a history of smoking, tobacco consumption, or alcohol intake. Emphasizing this point, Prof. (Dr.) Rout highlighted that elderly individuals are particularly susceptible to laryngeal cancer, while professionals such as teachers, singers, lawyers, and vendors are at heightened risk due to the frequent strain placed on their vocal cords.

Nonetheless, the silver lining lies in the prompt identification of voice-related ailments, which paves the way for efficacious treatment modalities. Prof. (Dr.) Rout underscored the availability of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options, affirming the prospect of effectively managing laryngeal cancer. The concerted efforts of esteemed medical professionals including Dr. Smruti Ranjan, Dr. Bibekananda Acharya, Dr. Subhra Pradhan, Dr. Aurodeep Luthar, and Dr. Paresh Giri contributed to the success of this initiative.
