World Autism Awareness Day Observed At KiiT International School

Bhubaneswar: KiiT International School, through its ‘Sen Globe’ initiative, observed World Autism Awareness Day today by organizing a series of events aimed at raising awareness about autism and advocating for the acceptance and support of individuals with autism. The event was graced by distinguished guests including the President of KiiT and KISS, Saswati Bal, Chairperson of the Odisha Skill Development Authority, Alaka Mishra, and Mohammad Nadeem Noor from UNFPA Odisha.

During her address, Mishra stressed the importance of viewing autism not as a disability, but as a unique ability. She emphasized the necessity of nurturing the skills of children with autism to empower them to reach their full potential alongside their neurotypical peers. Mishra highlighted the significance of providing comprehensive life skills training to unlock the inherent capabilities of these children.

Dr. Mona Lisa Bal, Chairperson of KiiT International School, highlighted the success of the SEN Global initiative, revealing that 15 percent of special children enrolled have been successfully integrated into mainstream education.

Addressing the audience, Mohammad Noor emphasized the individuality and independence of each child with autism, advocating for tailored educational approaches to cultivate their innate creativity. He stressed the importance of nurturing creativity among these children through specialized care and education.

Saswati Bal advised parents to embrace their children’s uniqueness with love, recognizing that it is integral to their holistic development.

Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the Founder of KIIT and KISS, joined the special children in celebrating the day, which featured cultural performances by the children.
