Wissenaire 2024 at IIT Bhubaneswar explores Significance of Defense Technology in National Security

Bhubaneswar: The curtains have closed on the Annual Techno-Management Festival Wissenaire 2024, hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar. This three-day extravaganza, launched on March 8th, 2024, was a fusion of innovation, intellect, and entertainment, drawing students, professionals, and enthusiasts from all corners of the nation. The central theme, “PACEM STRIFE: The Significance of Defense Technology as a Deterrent to Aggression and to Promote National Security,” set the tone for insightful discussions.

Dr. Jagannath Nayak, Director of the Centre for High Energy System and Sciences (CHESS) at DRDO, graced the inaugural ceremony, delivering a comprehensive discourse on the theme. His presentation, titled “Critical Defense Technologies and National Security,” shed light on DRDO’s endeavors in disruptive technologies for the armed forces, emphasizing India’s strides toward self-reliance in defense. Dr. Nayak underscored the collaborative efforts between DRDO, academia, and industry, showcasing the establishment of 15 DRDO-Industry-Academia Centers of Excellence and hinting at potential partnerships with IIT Bhubaneswar.

Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar delved into the theme’s significance, drawing from Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory to emphasize the paramount importance of security. Reflecting on global conflict scenarios, he stressed the need for a responsible defense strategy to safeguard national security, learning from historical vulnerabilities.

Prof. Rajesh Roshan Dash and Dr. Srinivas Bhaskar Karanki further echoed the theme’s relevance, with Prof. Dash highlighting its timeliness and Dr. Karanki providing insights into the festival’s background. Dr. Sayan Dey extended a warm welcome, while Mr. Rushikesh Reddy conveyed gratitude in his vote of thanks.

The subsequent days were filled with Tek Talks, featuring discussions on pertinent topics. Mr. Tushar Chabbra explored “Defence Innovation and AI-Powered Solutions,” while Col Sanjeet Sirohi delved into the “Importance of Defense Technology in Advancing National Harmony.” The final day saw Mr. Senthil Kumar sharing insights on the theme.

The festival also showcased cutting-edge exhibitions, workshops, robotics, and drone competitions, providing a platform for tech enthusiasts to exhibit their skills. A highlight was the captivating bike show, complemented by a mesmerizing performance by popular singer Dhvani Bhanushali, leaving the audience enthralled.
