Vigilance arrested Khurdha JE Sangeeta Mohapatra for taking Bribe

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance arrested Sangeeta Mohapatra, a Junior Engineer (JE) from Khurdha block, as she was caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000. The incident unfolded in the context of two road work orders worth Rs. 18 lakhs each, granted under the MP Lad Project, to the contractor who eventually filed the complaint. Upon the completion of the work, Engineer Mohapatra demanded a 10 percent commission, totaling Rs. 1.8 lakhs, to facilitate bill clearance. Prior to this, she had already accepted Rs. 1.5 lakhs. Consequently, Shishir Mangaraj, the contractor’s father, lodged a complaint with the Vigilance department.

In line with the prearranged plan, as the contractor was in the process of delivering the remaining Rs. 50,000 today, a team led by Khurda Vigilance DSP Chandrakala Jena and Nayagarh DSP Pratyush Mohapatra conducted a raid, resulting in the arrest of Assistant Engineer Sangeeta Mohapatra. The team seized the Rs. 50,000 from her possession, and the entire bribe amount has been recovered.

Bhubaneswar Vigilance has initiated simultaneous searches at two other locations associated with Smt. Mohapatra, pursuant to the registration of a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
