‘Support’ training program for physiotherapists conducted at SUMUM
Bhubaneswar: A day-long training session was organized at Sum Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (NIRTAR) at Olatpur. The aim of the program, dubbed SUMUM’s Program on Physiotherapy Orientation, Rehabilitation and Training (SUP’ORT), was to equip physiotherapists with essential skills for integrating physiotherapy into ICU management and providing basic life support.
Approximately 130 physiotherapists from across the country participated in the program. The inaugural session saw the presence of esteemed figures including SUMUM’s CEO, Dr. Swetapadma Dash; Director of NIRTAR, Dr. Patitapaban Mohanty; Assistant Director (Technical), Dr. Kishore Chandra Mohapatra; Chief of Medical Services at SUMUM, Brig. (Dr.) Biraj Mohan Mishra; and Head of the Physiotherapy department, Dr. P. Bala Kishore.
Dr. Dash emphasized the significance of physiotherapy in addressing both physical and emotional aspects, especially in societies marked by prevalent stress and sedentary lifestyles. She highlighted the potential impact of integrating physiotherapy into critical care and basic life support, stressing its potential to expedite recovery, enhance outcomes, and improve overall quality of life.
The sessions throughout the day featured talks by experts such as Dr. Anand Mishra, Senior Consultant in Critical Care Medicine at SUMUM; Head of the Emergency Medicine department, Dr. Susmeet Mishra; Clinical Nutritionist, Ms. Sushree Sangita Jena; Head of the Physiotherapy department, Dr. P. Bala Kishore; and Prof. Basanta Kumar Nanda from NIRTAR.
