Ratan Tata Receives Prestigious Kiss Humanitarian Award
Mumbai: Renowned industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, received the prestigious KISS Humanitarian Award 2021 at a ceremony held at his Mumbai residence on Monday. The event marked a significant acknowledgment of his dedication to social progress and outstanding corporate stewardship.
Tata, who typically shies away from public recognition, made an exception at the personal request of Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT and KISS, underscoring the significance of the KISS humanitarian honor. Originally announced in 2021, Tata’s acceptance was delayed due to the COVID pandemic.
Despite health concerns that have kept him from public engagements, Tata welcomed the intimate ceremony arranged at his home. Among the attendees were N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of the Tata Group, and Ricky Kej, a three-time Grammy Award winner. Samanta presented the award to Tata, expressing gratitude for his contributions to society.
In his acceptance speech, Tata conveyed his deep appreciation to KISS and its founder, declaring the moment as one of great significance in his life. Samanta, acknowledging Tata’s revered status in India, emphasized the privilege of honoring him with the award.
Reflecting on Tata’s impact, Samanta shared a personal connection, stating that Tata’s social endeavors and leadership had influenced him since childhood. He recounted a familial tie to the Tata Company and expressed admiration for Tata’s character and achievements.
Established in 2008 by Achyuta Samanta, the KISS Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals and organizations worldwide who exemplify humanitarian values. Past recipients have included global leaders, Nobel laureates, and prominent figures across various fields, highlighting the award’s international prestige and esteem.
During the ceremony, approximately 40,000 students of KISS conveyed their well wishes to Ratan Tata.
