Panel Discussion On Significance Of Sustainability, ESG And Renewable Energy In The Mining Sector

Bhubaneswar: The second day of the Odisha Mining & Infrastructure International Expo on Friday saw the active involvement of industry experts in two separate panel discussions. The first panel, kicked off by a welcome address from Swami Prem Anvesh ji, MD of Futurex Group, delved into the topic of “Significance of Sustainability and ESG.” Mr. Amit K Dubey from ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited, Mr. Anand Rai from JSW Group, Mr. B.P. Mishra from Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, Mr. Praveen Mishra from LSI Engineering & Consultants Ltd, Mr. Kunal Raman from Updapt, Mr. Subhajit Chaudhuri from MMD Heavy Machinery (India) Pvt Ltd, Mr. Leo Christy A from Vimson Group, and Mr. Mansur Faruqui from LINQ Haul India Pvt. Ltd, joined the discussion.

They explored various facets including Global Trends and Challenges in Sustainable Mining, Regulatory Frameworks, Technological Innovations, Best Environmental Practices, and the Significance of ESG in the mining sector. Mr. Mithilesh Kumar, Head of the Centre for Sustainability at PHDCCI, was also present.

Mr. Amit Dubey, Head of Mining at AM/NS India, highlighted Odisha’s pivotal role in the global mining and steel industry, emphasizing AM/NS India’s commitment to its operations in the state, including the ongoing projects like the Steel Plant at Paradeep and the proposed Mega Steel Plant at Kendrapara.

In the second panel discussion moderated by Mr. Punit Chaudhry, Secretary of PHDCCI, Mr. Bhakti B. Parida from Tata Power and Prof. Laxmikant Paikray from Utkal University tackled the theme “Renewable Energy in Mining Sector: A Greener Way Forward.” They discussed the integration of renewable energy in mining operations, addressing challenges, and exploring future trends and innovations.
