Jindal Steel & Power goes green: Electric vehicles & solar power drive net zero journey

Angul: In a significant stride towards realizing its Net Zero objectives, Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), a prominent Indian steel manufacturer, has announced the introduction of 10 electric buses and 27 electric SUVs at its Angul facility in Odisha. This move signifies a pivotal moment in JSP’s dedication to environmental sustainability and efforts toward decarbonization.

Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel & Power, inaugurated the electric vehicles, reaffirming JSP’s steadfast commitment to sustainability. “At Jindal Steel & Power, we are steadfast in our pursuit of sustainable development and environmental stewardship,” Mr. Jindal stated. “The integration of electric vehicles and the activation of our extensive solar installations at the Angul facility are significant strides in fulfilling our pledge to achieve Net Zero and foster a cleaner, greener planet for future generations.”

JSP Angul has placed orders for a total of 27 electric buses and 45 electric SUVs, all of which are emission-free vehicles. This transition not only aids in reducing carbon emissions at the plant level but also enhances operational safety by phasing out the use of two-wheelers on the premises. Additionally, the company underscores its commitment to global standards in the procurement and production of these electric vehicles.

In furtherance of its environmental commitment, JSP Angul has initiated a rooftop solar plant with a cumulative generation capacity of 21 million units per year. This endeavor is anticipated to diminish the unit’s annual CO2 footprint by 18,000 tons, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting approximately 3.6 lakh trees over a decade.
