ISRO Announces Young Scientist Programme 2024 (YUVIKA)

New Delhi: The allure of space and the universe captivates the youth, fueling their boundless curiosity to explore celestial phenomena. Recognizing this fervent interest, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched a special initiative for school children known as the “Young Scientist Programme” or “YUva VIgyani KAryakram” (YUVIKA).

The primary aim of this program is to instill foundational knowledge in Space Science, Space Technology, and Space Applications among young students, acquainting them with the latest advancements in the field. ISRO endeavors to “Catch them young,” acknowledging the potential of youth to engage and excel in space science and technology, thus contributing to the nation’s future.

YUVIKA also aims to inspire more students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Tailored specifically for rural areas, the program seeks to raise awareness about emerging trends in science and technology among school-goers.

The YUVIKA program spans two weeks and includes classroom training, practical experiments, hands-on activities with CANSAT, robotic kits, model rocketry, and interactions with ISRO scientists, along with field trips to ISRO facilities.

Since its inception, YUVIKA has witnessed significant success, with 111, 153, and 337 students participating in 2019, 2022, and 2023, respectively, representing all states and Union Territories of India.
