IAS EMERGE GROUP CHAMPIONS IN SOA CUP SPORTS FIESTA
Bhubaneswar:The Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAS) emerged as the overall champions in the annual SOA Cup sports competition. Aditya Majhi from SOA National Institute of Law (SNIL) and Solancee Uramani from SUM Nursing College (SNC) clinched the men’s and women’s titles respectively in track and field events.
Students from SOA’s ten affiliated institutions participated in the three-week-long event, showcasing their skills across various sports disciplines, including football, cricket, volleyball, throw ball, softball, basketball, table tennis, and tennis.
In the men’s football final, Foreign Students’ II, a team comprising overseas students, claimed victory by defeating IAS with a score of 5-0. Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) secured both the men’s and women’s titles in basketball, triumphing over Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) with scores of 40-31 and 16-12 respectively.
The men’s cricket final saw Computer Science and Engineering of ITER emerge victorious over Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS) with a five-wicket win, while IAS triumphed over Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS) by 46 runs in the women’s event.
In the softball finals, IAS boys defeated School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) 7-2, while SNIL claimed victory in the women’s event by defeating IAS with a score of 26-17. ITER secured the Throw Ball women’s title by defeating SNC with a score of 2-0.
In volleyball, Computer Science and Engineering (ITER) clinched the men’s title by defeating IBCS with a score of three sets to one. In the tennis men’s final, Amitoj Singh Sachdeva (IMS) secured victory against Jaydish Chand (SPS) with scores of 6-0, 6-3.
IBCS emerged victorious in both men’s and women’s Kho Kho finals, defeating IAS, while CSE (ITER) and ITER secured the Kabaddi men’s and women’s titles respectively, defeating SPS and IAS. Abinash Tripathy of CSE won the men’s Table Tennis crown by defeating Binayak Pandit of IAS, while SNIL’s Payal Pani secured victory in the women’s event by defeating Arohi Acharya (SPS) in the final.
In Chess, Aditya Ranjan Samal (CSE) claimed the top spot in the men’s section, while Sneha Verma (SNIL) emerged victorious in the women’s category. Sartik Satyakam Nayak of Mechanical Engineering (ITER) was adjudged the winner in the best physique competition.
The concluding function, held on March 7, was graced by Olympian Anuradha Biswal as the chief guest, along with international volleyball player Ananya Das. SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, SOA’s Dean (Students’ Welfare) Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das, Sports Officer Ms. Sunita Barma, and IAS Prof. Anshuman Jena were also present.
