HEATWAVE CONDITIONS TO CONTINUE TILL APRIL 7: CEC

Bhubaneswar: Hot air streaming in from the northwest and peninsular India, coupled with clear skies, has brought about heat wave conditions in Odisha, expected to persist until April 7, as per the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) under SOA. Dr. Sarat Chandra Sahu, CEC’s Director, attributed the scorching temperatures, low humidity, and the absence of sea breeze from the Bay of Bengal for the surge in daytime temperatures.

Dr. Sahu projected maximum daytime temperatures ranging from 40 to 42 degrees Celsius across most interior parts of Odisha until April 7, with coastal areas experiencing slightly lower temperatures between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius during the same period. There’s a chance of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on April 7 afternoon or night, with this weather pattern persisting until April 9, potentially leading to a drop in daytime temperatures to below 38 degrees Celsius from April 8 to 10 in most areas.

However, temperatures are expected to rise once again from April 11 onwards, cautioned Dr. Sahu.
