Green buildings propel Odisha's progression towards a sustainable built environment

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) under the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is delighted to announce the remarkable success of the Green Odisha Conclave 2024. This pioneering event aimed to ignite innovation and foster collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals. Held on April 10, 2024, in Bhubaneswar, the conclave brought together a diverse array of stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and civil society to promote and champion green practices and technologies.

In the context of urgent global imperatives to address climate change and environmental degradation, the Green Odisha Conclave 2024 emerged as a crucial platform for thought leaders and experts to exchange insights, strategies, and best practices for building a greener and more sustainable future.

During the event, Er. Manoranjan Misra, Engineer in Chief (Civil) at the Works Department, Government of Odisha, emphasized the pressing need to tackle environmental concerns. He stressed the importance of embracing green building and sustainable projects as non-negotiable imperatives, especially in light of escalating emissions.

Dr. Pradipta Mohanty, Chairman of CII Odisha State Council and Chairman of SNM Group, highlighted the necessity of a collaborative approach to position Odisha as a leader in green initiatives. He emphasized the importance of research and development and capacity building to enhance sustainable practices across sectors, particularly in industries like mining, steel, and textiles.

Manoj Kar, Chairman of the IGBC Bhubaneswar Chapter, underscored the urgency of addressing climate change and the need for a paradigm shift towards green building norms and sustainable practices within the construction industry.

M Anand presented key green concepts, best practices, and cost-saving measures for developing green compliant buildings, showcasing remarkable projects certified by IGBC across India. With 11.62 billion sqm registered green footprints through 13,600 projects of various building typologies, India is making significant strides in green initiatives. In Odisha, over 100 projects are transitioning to green practices with IGBC.

Sofia Firdous, Co-Chair of IGBC Bhubaneswar Chapter, delivered closing remarks during the inaugural session, announcing the election of ArMananjaya Rath as the new chairman and herself as the Co-Chair of CII IGBC Bhubaneswar Chapter.

An interactive session moderated by Dy. Director, IGBC M Anand on ‘Unleashing Sustainability’ featured esteemed panelists including Engineer in Chief, Works Department, Govt of Odisha Mr. Manoranjan Mishra, IDCO CGM-Environment Mr. Ashok Kumar Mishra, Airport Director, Biju Pattanaik International Airport Prasanna Pradhan, and BMC City Engineer Bikash Kumar Behera.

The program received support from local chapters of CREDAI, IIA, IIID, and ISHRAE and was attended by over 175 key stakeholders from government departments, the building industry, and corporates.
