BSKY Smart Card Evolves Beyond Being Just Another Government Initiative

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) has evolved beyond being just another government initiative. It has become a lifeline for the underprivileged, offering advanced treatment facilities in both designated hospitals within and outside Odisha. Even those residing in the remote corners of western Odisha are now accessing cutting-edge, specialized treatments for complex illnesses.

Take the case of Prabhat Kumar Rout, a 48-year-old resident of Ward-7 in the Bolangir municipality. Rout was plagued by severe health issues, including fluid buildup in his abdomen and chest, as well as breathlessness. With a modest income from a small grocery shop, he found it impossible to afford the high-end medical care he needed. However, in his time of need, he learned from his neighbors that he could receive cashless treatment at Medicover Hospital in Vishakhapatnam through the BSKY smart card.

Accompanied by his wife Sarmistha, Rout sought treatment at the hospital, where he was admitted on February 8th of the current year. Following proper procedures in the gastroenterology department, he was then transferred to the interventional neurology department. There, Dr. Sibashankar Dalei performed a crucial operation using the trans-jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) method. After receiving attentive post-operative care and undergoing check-ups, Rout was discharged on February 29th.

Expressing her gratitude, Sarmistha said, “Following the operation, my husband’s condition has significantly improved. He can eat, converse, and resume his daily activities. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patnaik for the BSKY smart card and to the doctors at Medicover Hospital for their exceptional treatment.”

Dr. Dalei, the attending physician at Medicover Hospital, remarked, “The patient arrived at our facility in an advanced stage of liver cirrhosis. We performed a highly advanced procedure known as TIPS, and his recovery progress is promising. We anticipate his full recovery soon. We also appreciate the Odisha government for implementing the BSKY smart card system, which has enabled many underprivileged individuals in Odisha to receive timely advanced treatments at top-tier hospitals.”
