Bhojpuri Star Pawan Singh Reverses Decision, Wants To Contest Lok Sabha Election
Asansol: Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh, who initially withdrew his candidacy from Asansol in West Bengal under the BJP banner, has reversed his decision, announcing his intention to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In a recent social media post, Singh stated, “I am committed to fulfilling the promises made to the people and to my mother by seeking your blessings and support. Jai Mata Di.” This move comes after Singh initially stepped back from the electoral race amidst allegations from the Trinamool Congress, claiming that some of his songs contained derogatory remarks about Bengali women.
Singh, who was included in the BJP’s first list of 195 candidates, had previously cited personal reasons for his withdrawal, expressing gratitude towards the party leadership for their trust in him. However, with his recent decision, he is back in contention for the Asansol seat, currently held by Shatrughan Sinha of the Trinamool Congress.
When questioned about Singh’s earlier withdrawal, Sinha remarked, “I am not personally acquainted with him, but I have heard of his reputation as a talented artist and singer. It’s an internal matter for the BJP.” Singh, also known as the ‘Power Star’ in the Bhojpuri film industry, has been associated with the BJP since 2014, earning acclaim for his performances in notable films such as Pratigya, Satya, and Har Har Gange.
