ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Appoints Dr. Arvind Bodhankar As Chief Sustainability Officer

Mumbai:ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), collaboration between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, renowned global steelmakers, announces the appointment of Dr. Arvind Bodhankar as its Chief Sustainability Officer. In this capacity, Dr. Bodhankar will spearhead AM/NS India’s sustainability initiatives, focusing on devising and executing medium- to long-term strategies for decarbonization, environmental conservation, and advancing the organization’s climate objectives.

Formerly serving as the Executive Director-ESG & Chief Risk Officer at Dalmia Bharat Group, Dr. Bodhankar directed sustainability and risk management endeavors, overseeing ventures in renewable energy, circular economy practices, carbon capture, and green construction projects. With over thirty years of experience across various manufacturing sectors, including petrochemicals, fertilizers, steel, cement, and automotive, he has held leadership positions in operations, quality assurance, health, safety, and environmental management. Dr. Bodhankar has also been instrumental in driving sustainability agendas for prominent manufacturing firms.

Wim Van Gerven, Chief Operating Officer of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), expressed confidence in Dr. Arvind Bodhankar’s vast expertise and experience in sustainability and risk management. He emphasized Dr. Bodhankar’s pivotal role in advancing the company’s sustainability objectives as it pursues growth strategies aligned with the nation’s evolving needs.

AM/NS India has set ambitious targets, aiming for a 20% reduction in emissions intensity by 2030. This commitment involves a comprehensive approach throughout the steel production value chain, including ramping up renewable energy sources to fulfill 100% of grid electricity requirements, doubling scrap steel recycling through enhanced sourcing and processing facilities, and implementing operational enhancements via technological innovations.
