Baripada: Following the directives of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, VK Pandian, Chairman of Nabin Odisha and 5T visited Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.  During the visit, he reviewed ongoing developmental projects in the region and engaged in discussions with local residents and students.

Addressing students at the North Odisha University campus in Baripada, Pandian encouraged the youth to actively participate in the transformation of Odisha. Speaking at the Nua-O program, he emphasized the vast opportunities it provides for showcasing talent and fostering overall personality development. Pandian expressed confidence that the program would contribute to the students’ academic success also.

A focal point of the visit was the review of the Subarnarekha Irrigation Project in Mayurbhanj district, aimed at irrigating 2, 70,900 acres of agricultural land with a budget of Rs 10,210 crore. The first phase is expected to conclude by May 2024, followed by the completion of the second phase by June 2028.

Pandian also scrutinized major irrigation projects, including the Sone Project in Udala, Khairy Bandh Project and Large Lift Irrigation Project clusters. These projects, with an investment of Rs 3282 crore is supposed to irrigate 1, 16,500 acres of land. Pandian emphasized the need to expedite these initiatives to ensure timely completion.

The ongoing construction of a river embankment and ring road over Budhabalang at Baripada, costing Rs 154 crore, was also reviewed. Additionally, Pandian assessed projects such as the Rs 72.63 crore Ghati Road, a large bridge over Budhabalang River at Baripada (Rs 48 crore), and developmental works at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital, and a cancer hospital in Baripada (Rs 47.35 crore).

Pandian issued directives to complete all projects within the designated time frame and urged everyone to work diligently in alignment with the government’s commitment, with the aim of elevating Mayurbhanj district to one of the best in Odisha.
