OMVD Traffic Inspector Intercepted, Over Rs 24 Lakh Cash seized
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths trapped Jitendra Kumar Behera, an OMVD Traffic Inspector in Talcher, under Angul district, on the night of January 11, 2024.
Acting on credible information, a team from Odisha Vigilance intercepted Behera at Trinath Bazar, Balianta, Bhubaneswar, as he traveled in his car (Registration No. OD 33T 3839) from Talcher to Astarang. The ensuing investigation led to the discovery of a significant amount of cash, totaling Rs. 11,15,470, in Behera’s possession. Due to his inability to provide a satisfactory account of the funds, the amount was promptly seized.
Subsequent to the interception, a thorough house search was conducted at Behera’s rented residence in Talcher and his house in Astarang, focusing on the angle of disproportionate assets. The ongoing searches have yielded additional findings, including Rs. 3,08,750 in cash and 336 grams of gold from the rented house in Talcher, along with Rs. 10 lakhs from the residence in Astarang. The cumulative cash seizure now stands at approximately Rs. 24.24 lakhs.
As part of the investigative process, the authorities are extending their search to the residence of Sri Krushna Chandra Behera, the brother of Sri Jitendra Kumar Behera, situated in Paradeep.
The suspect officer, Jitendra Behera, is currently being examined to ascertain the source of the funds. A detailed report on the investigation’s findings will follow as the searches and examinations progress.
