Odisha: Young woman, aged 20, trampled to death by a wild elephant in Keonjhar
Bhubaneswar: In a heartbreaking incident, a young woman lost her life after being trampled by a wild elephant in a forest near Gurutuan village, located within the Champua forest range in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Thursday. The victim, identified as Sombari Munda, hailed from Gurutuan under Jajang panchayat.
Sombari’s journey to her maternal grandfather’s residence took a tragic turn as she crossed paths with the wild elephant while navigating through the forest. The peaceful atmosphere of the surroundings was abruptly shattered when the elephant launched a sudden and savage attack on her, resulting in her untimely demise.
Upon receiving notification of the incident, authorities acted swiftly. Police personnel from Bamebari, along with local Forest Department officials, promptly arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. Sombari’s body was recovered and transported for post-mortem examination in accordance with established procedures, and the authorities registered a case of unnatural death.
Bamebari IIC Dipti Ranjan Sahu confirmed the unfortunate event, attributing it to an elephant attack. Simultaneously, efforts were being made by Forest Department personnel to guide the elephant herd away from human settlements and safely back into their natural habitat.
