KIMS Cancer Centre Observes World Cancer Day
Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Cancer Centre on Sunday observed World Cancer Day through various awareness initiatives. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the Founder of KIIT and KISS, kicked off the day with a walkathon, which saw significant participation from doctors, nurses, staff, and students.
Additionally, a street play was organized to raise awareness about cancer-related issues. Preceding the Cancer Day celebration, a door-to-door awareness drive took place in Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar, on Saturday, aiming to educate the community about cancer prevention and early detection while dispelling myths and fostering a positive attitude towards cancer patients.
Under the leadership of Dr. Jogamaya Pattnaik, Associate Professor at KIMS Cancer Centre, the campaign highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular check-ups, and early symptom identification to combat the growing threat of cancer.
Each year, World Cancer Day focuses on a specific theme, and this year’s theme, ‘Close the Care Gap,’ was chosen to address disparities in cancer care. KIMS Cancer Centre utilized this opportunity not only to raise awareness but also to underscore the necessity of accessible and high-quality cancer care.
Senior Consultants, Surgical Oncologist Dr. Subyasachi Parida, and Dr. Sachin Vishwakarma, alongside other distinguished doctors from KIMS, actively engaged in enlightening the audience about cancer-related issues during the event. The emphasis was on the significance of early intervention and effective treatment approaches.
