New Delhi: In recent developments, the Indian Government has raised a red flag for users of Samsung smartphones, citing multitude of vulnerabilities. The advisory, communicated through the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) and identified as CIVN-2023-0360, underscores critical security concerns spanning both older and more recent Samsung models.
The spotlight is particularly on Samsung smartphones running Android versions 11, 12, 13, and 14, as they have been identified as susceptible to exploitation. Researchers have emphasized that these vulnerabilities pose significant threats, potentially enabling hackers to breach security measures and gain unauthorized access to sensitive information. The CERT advisory provides detailed insights into these security risks.
The newly identified vulnerabilities affect various Samsung smartphone models, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Flip 5, Galaxy Fold 5, and other similar devices. These vulnerabilities essentially represent weak points in the security infrastructure of the devices, exposing them to potential cyber threats. In the event of a cyber-attack, hackers could compromise the device’s security, pilfer the SIM PIN, gain access to arbitrary files, and extract sensitive information. In more severe scenarios, complete takeover of the device, essentially turning it into a puppet under hacker control, is possible.
