Critically ill patient treated successfully at SUM Phulnakhara
Bhubaneswar: A 42-year-old male patient suffering from acute pyelonephritis, a bacterial infection leading to kidney inflammation and septic shock, has been effectively treated at the Phulnakhara campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital. Initially presenting symptoms of fever, breathlessness, and altered sensorium, he was admitted under the care of Dr. Gouri Shankar Ray, a Critical Care Medicine Specialist, in the Intensive Care Unit on April 3rd.
Due to severe respiratory distress, the patient required intubation the following day and underwent dialysis four times. Additionally, he underwent Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy (URSL) to address a kidney stone. A multidisciplinary team, including nephrologists and radiologists, collaborated on his treatment.
With gradual improvement, the patient was extubated on April 6th and subsequently discharged. He has since regained full functionality and resumed his daily activities. The patient’s family expressed gratitude to the medical team, comprising doctors, nurses, and paramedics, for the successful treatment of their relative.
