Bargarh Handloom Summit – 2024 Kicks Off At Bargarh
Bhubaneswar: The Bargarh Handloom Summit 2024 aims to elevate Odisha’s handloom industry to a national platform, with weavers adapting traditional techniques to meet the demands of the contemporary world. To enhance its visibility, a national handloom summit was organized at the Odisha Handloom Center in Bargarh district. Shri Asit Tripathy, Chairman of WODC, expressed the belief that this summit would serve as a unifying platform for weavers, sellers, buyers, and trainers.
The Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department, in collaboration with the Western Odisha Development Council and District Administration, orchestrated this national-level event. The primary goal is to showcase handloom varieties like Bomkai, Pashapali, Habaspuri, Sonpuri, Sambalpuri Bandha, and Ikat at a national level, providing a stage for weavers to introduce innovative designs and establish a national market. This year’s theme is “A Weave of Culture and Legacy.”
The summit, a collaborative effort by the district administrations of Bargarh, Boudh, Sonpur, and Balangir, will feature Bollywood icon Diya Mirza and an evening fashion show with renowned designers. The Handloom, Textiles, and Handicrafts Minister, Smt. Rita Sahu, inaugurated the event, with Shri Arvind Kumar Padhi, Principal Secretary, also in attendance. Other dignitaries present included MLA Bargarh Shri Debesh Acharya, MLA Atabira Smt. Snehangani Chhuria, Northern Revenue Commissioner Shri Suresh Chandra Dalei, District Collector Smt. Monisha Banerjee, CEO WODC Dr. Ajit Kumar Mishra, and various officials.
