AM/NS India Observes 53rd National Safety Week
Bhubaneswar: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel(AM/NS) India’s Odisha operations recently marked the 53rd National Safety Week with a focused agenda aimed at fostering a culture of health and safety awareness among its workforce. The week-long initiative kicked off on March 4, 2024, with the symbolic hoisting of the safety flag by Sri Suresha G, Executive Director of Odisha Operations for AM/NS India. Under the theme “Focus on Safety Leadership for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Excellence,” the celebration aimed to underscore the importance of safety in the workplace.
The event commenced with the administration of a safety pledge followed by a spirited rally within the plant premises, drawing active participation from employees. To bolster engagement in the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) campaign, a variety of activities were organized, including the ‘DASH-A-THLON – Run for Sustainability’ event along Paradeep beach road on March 6, 2024.
Over 160 employees and business associates joined forces to reaffirm their commitment to safety and sustainability. Safety banners adorned strategic locations within the plant, and safety badges were distributed among the workforce.
Throughout the week, an array of events unfolded, including street plays, exhibitions and training on Personal Protective Equipment, quizzes, hazard identification drills, expert sessions, skits, poster slogan and poem competitions, departmental housekeeping and safety initiative contests, creative photography and video competitions, rangoli designing contests, health and safety awareness sessions, and discussions on the Life Saving Golden Rule (LSGR) policy, occupational health care, firefighting techniques, emergency rescue procedures, and case study analyses.
Key figures such as Sri USR Raju, Head of the Pellet Plant, Sri Saroj Pattnaik, Head of the Power Plant, and Sri C H Hariprasad, Head of Operations, actively participated in various programs organized by the Health and Safety team. Sri Sanjeev Muduli, Head of Health and Safety, emphasized the paramount importance of health and safety, urging employees to take ownership and support each other in fostering a healthier and safer workplace.
Additionally, the team orchestrated the ‘Safety Beyond Boundaries’ program at the Government High School in Paradeep, engaging school students in quizzes and other awareness activities.
Reflecting on the occasion, Sri Suresha G, Executive Director of Odisha Operations for AM/NS India, reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to occupational health and safety. He affirmed AM/NS India’s dedication to setting exemplary standards for employee and worker health and safety within the plant, with a vision to drive holistic improvements through behavioral-based sessions, cross-functional shop floor audits, and a system of rewards and recognitions to incentivize best practices.
