Odisha Heat wave: Baripada boils at 44.6 °C, Mercury rises to 40 °C or above at 30 places
Bhubaneswar: Extreme heat wave conditions gripped Odisha on Sunday, with temperatures soaring to 40°C or higher at 30 locations across the state. According to the IMD regional center in Bhubaneswar, Baripada claimed the title of the hottest spot, with the mercury spiking to 44.6°C, while 13 other cities recorded temperatures of 43°C or above.
Observations from the IMD indicated that Nuapada registered 44°C, Talcher at 43.8°C, Jharsuguda and Keonjhar at 43.6°C, and Bolangir at 43.2°C. Several other cities, including Sundargarh, Boudh, and Dhenkanal, experienced temperatures at or above 43°C. The scorching conditions persisted throughout the region, with cities like Bhadrak, Sambalpur, and Bhubaneswar enduring temperatures above 41°C. Even cooler spots like Paralakhemundi and Jajpur reached 41°C, while Phulbani, Sonepur, Bargarh, and Kendrapara saw temperatures hit 40.8°C. Balasore, Khurda, and Jagatsinghpur rounded off the list with temperatures hovering around 40°C.
