VK Pandian Visits Sapigen Biologix Vaccine Plant in Bhubaneswar
- The Biotech Plant to commence commercial production by May 2024.
Bhubaneswar: 5T Nabin Odisha Chairman V Karthik Pandian, alongside officials, toured the Sapigen Biologix Vaccine Plant located at Odisha Biotech Park in Andharua on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the state capital. In its final phase of commissioning, the plant is poised to become the largest vaccine production facility in the country, with a capacity to manufacture 2.4 crore doses of various vaccines daily.
During the visit, Pandian inspected all operational units, engaging with both management and staff. He directed government agencies to provide full support to ensure the plant’s commissioning within the next three months. With an investment of Rs 1500 crore, spearheaded by Dr. Krishna Ella of Bharat Biotech Park fame, this cutting-edge facility is set to generate 1,500 direct jobs, primarily sourced locally from Odisha. It aims to produce over 15 different vaccines for diseases such as cholera and malaria.
The diverse range of vaccines manufactured in Bhubaneswar will be distributed globally, bolstering Odisha’s reputation in biotechnology. Aligned with the ethos of HCM and Odisha, which prioritize the value of every life, these vaccines will safeguard millions worldwide.
Pandian pledged government support and highlighted the recently endorsed biotechnology policy by HCM Sri Naveen Patnaik’s cabinet. He expressed optimism that the establishment of this flagship manufacturing plant would attract additional biotechnology firms to Odisha Biotech Park, driving significant investments and employment opportunities in the specialized field.
