Odisha EOW Apprehended 3 Persons In Fake Job Scam
Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha apprehended three individuals, including a woman, on Wednesday, in connection with an alleged nationwide scam involving fake job offers across six states. The arrested individuals are Mohammad Sanaullah and Sakshi Jain from Hyderabad, and Surat Dalai from Balasore, Odisha.
The illicit operation, orchestrated from Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, extended its reach to at least six states, namely Odisha, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Investigative findings revealed that the group operated a deceptive website (www.modelschools.ac) meticulously designed to resemble a legitimate government platform with the intention of misleading and defrauding unsuspecting job seekers.
To complicate matters for law enforcement, the scammers utilized various bank accounts to amass fees, aiming to obfuscate the tracking efforts of police and other authorities. The racket members employed fake SIM cards and leveraged multiple YouTube channels to promote fraudulent job advertisements.
During the course of the investigation, transactions exceeding Rs 1.7 crore were found in these bank accounts, with a significant portion of the funds withdrawn in cash through ATMs. The EOW is now collaborating with law enforcement agencies in other affected states, issuing alerts to ensure coordinated efforts in tackling this widespread scam.
