Odisha’s Tableau to Feature in Republic Day Parade-2023
Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s tableau will feature in this year’s republic day parade in New Delhi. The Ministry of Defense has issued a letter to the Chief Secretary of the State Government confirming the selection of Odisha’s tableau model for the prestigious event.
The selected tableaux, including those from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh, will be part of the Republic Day parade celebrations at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. States are required to complete their respective tableaus by January 19, with a rehearsal scheduled for January 23.
Last year, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of independence, the Union Ministry of Defense invited various states to propose tableau themes related to the freedom struggle. Odisha submitted a documentary on the Paika rebellion led by Buxi Jagabandhu, along with four other topics. Despite being discussed until the third round, Odisha’s theme was ultimately rejected.
In response to the rejection, protests were staged by institutions such as the Odisha Paika Academy and Samarkala Academy in front of the Raj Bhavan.
