Mumbai: Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), a prominent player in the global steel industry, has been honored with the CSR Excellence Award by The CSR Journal. This recognition applauds JSP’s exceptional efforts in advancing sports in rural and tribal areas within the country. The award was presented by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Prashant Kumar Hota, President and Group Head (CSR) of JSP, during a ceremony held on December 9, 2023, at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai. The event was graced by the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, renowned actor Amir Khan, noted poet Dr. Kumar Vishwas, and various senior corporate executives.
Expressing gratitude for the CSR Excellence Award, Shallu Jindal, Chairperson of the JSP Foundation, highlighted the organization’s commitment to building an inclusive sports ecosystem. She emphasized the foundation’s efforts in nurturing 25,000 rural and tribal sports talents, providing essential infrastructure for coaching, and witnessing these talents achieve success in national and international tournaments.
Under the leadership of Chairman Naveen Jindal, Jindal Steel & Power has played a pivotal role in advancing sports development in rural and tribal regions. Through the JSP Foundation, the company has supported over 25,000 sports enthusiasts, with a particular emphasis on tribal-dominant areas. Notably, the foundation has played a significant role in nurturing 5,000 budding hockey talents in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
JSP’s holistic approach to promoting athletic prowess includes initiatives in nutrition, coaching, and the development of essential sporting infrastructure. The company has been instrumental in nurturing Wushu players in Keonjhar district, resulting in remarkable achievements, including 643 medals, including five international accolades.
Recognizing the importance of nurturing talent at an early stage, JSP has established the Jindal Sports Hostel in Soyabali, offering state-of-the-art residential facilities for 60 emerging sports talents. The company also supports the women’s football team in Raigarh and the girls’ hockey team in Sundargarh, emphasizing its dedication to promoting gender-inclusive sports initiatives.

The OP Jindal Cricket Academy, a cornerstone of JSP’s commitment to nurturing cricketing talent, has positively impacted over 2,000 state cricket players in Chhattisgarh. Additionally, the company has renovated and upgraded the Raigarh Stadium in Chhattisgarh, equipping it with international-level facilities, including a badminton court, basketball court, state-of-the-art gymnasium, multipurpose hall, and pavilion.
In tandem with these initiatives, JSP actively organizes sports tournaments in rural areas, further amplifying its efforts to promote sports among the youth.
