Vijayawada: On January 4, there is likelihood that YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and founder-president of YSR Telangana Party, will join the Congress. The shift comes after the Congress secured victory in the Telangana assembly elections, putting an end to the dominance of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the state.
YS Sharmila convened a meeting with party leaders today at 11 am to discuss the party’s merger and future activities.
In the lead-up to the recent Telangana assembly elections, YS Sharmila had pledged her support to the Congress. Opting not to contest the November 30 polls in Telangana, she aimed to prevent voter division, providing relief to former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
YS Sharmila stated that her support for the Congress was rooted in the potential for the party to win the Telangana assembly elections. She criticized KCR for failing to fulfill promises made during his nine-year tenure, expressing her reluctance to see him return to power.
