Jharsuguda: Taking a further stride in its achievements Vedanta Aluminium, the leading aluminum producer in India, has been honored with the prestigious ‘Best Exporter’ Award at the Odisha State Export Awards. This recognition acknowledges the exceptional performance of Vedanta’s Jharsuguda smelter, which has maintained its position as the largest exporter in the state for two consecutive fiscal years, 2020–21 and 2021–22.

The esteemed award was presented by Shri Pratap Keshari Deb, the Minister of Industry, MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise), and Energy for the Government of Odisha. Mr. Ashok Kumar Patro, Head of Indirect Taxation, and Mr. Karan Kumar Agarwal, Deputy Head of Taxation (Direct and Indirect), accepted the award on behalf of the company. It’s worth noting that Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda, had previously received the same accolade in the fiscal years 2018–19 and 2019–20.

Speaking about the accolades, Mr. Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer of Aluminium Business, expressed gratitude, stating, “I extend my thanks to Shri Naveen Patnaik, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, and the Directorate of Export Promotion & Marketing for honoring us with the esteemed Best Exporter Awards.

Our Jharsuguda smelters play a crucial role by independently producing more than one-third of India’s aluminum, actively supporting the state government’s ‘Make in Odisha’ initiative. We take immense pride in being a catalyst for Odisha’s progress, dedicated to utilizing our resources to position the state as a global hub for aluminum production.”

At 1.8 million metric tons per year of aluminum production, Vedanta Aluminium’s Jharsuguda plant is the largest aluminium plant in the world, ex-China. It is a national asset that is at the forefront of producing a diverse range of high-quality aluminium products, including billets,ingots, wire rods, primary foundry alloys, and more.These products play a crucial role in vital industries such as aerospace, automotive, construction, electrification, and transportation, contributing to the company’s global reach with customers in 60 countries.

The plant has put the state of Odisha on the world map as a top aluminium producer and made India a leading exporter of the world’s second most important metal, aluminium. The plant leverages state-of-the-art technology, earning global acclaim for the exceptional quality and performance standards of their offerings.

Notably, Vedanta Aluminium has achieved a remarkable milestone by introducing India’s first low-carbon aluminium, branded as ‘Restora, and Restora Ultra (ultra-lowcarbon aluminum), marking a pioneering achievement in the state. Reaffirming its dedication to bolstering the quality and sustainability standards of its extensive product range, the company is the first in the Indian aluminium industry to secure the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for several of its aluminium products as per the available BIS quality standards.

Additionally, the company’s commitment to sustainability is recognized by esteemed international bodies like Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) International and the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), thereby strengthening Odisha’s position on the global industrial map.

Vedanta Aluminium has been widely hailed for bringing remote regions of Odisha into the socio-economic mainstream while also contributing nearly 5% to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
