Bhubaneswar: At the second campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, situated in Phulnakhara near this location, a dedicated team of surgeons recently achieved a remarkable feat by successfully excising a tumor weighing one and a half kilograms from a pregnant woman. Spearheaded by Dr. Smrutishree Sahu, the surgical endeavor not only safeguarded the life of the patient but also ensured a safe delivery. Remarkably, both the mother and the newborn emerged from the ordeal in good health.
The surgical team conducted a complex procedure, delivering the baby boy through a caesarean section while simultaneously performing a myomectomy to extract the uterine fibroid. Expressing profound gratitude, the patient’s family commended the medical team for their skillful execution of the surgery.
Under the unwavering support of the Dean of the new campus of IMS and SUM Hospital, Professor Arakhita Swain, and the Medical Superintendent, Professor Rajesh Kumar Lenka, the surgical team flourished. Comprising various experts including Dr. Siddharth Gautam from the Pharmacological department, pediatrician Dr. Soumya Ranja Samal, Dr. Pragya Nanda from the Anesthesia department, Ms. Kamalini Mallick as Deputy Nursing Superintendent, Ms. Lipsa Rani Ojha, Priyanka Swain as OT nurses, and Mr. Subhankar Mphapatra as a pharmacist, the team collaborated seamlessly to ensure the success of the procedure.
The inauguration of the new hospital, presided over by Odisha Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik on January 22, marked a significant milestone. Spanning across NH-16 between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the 2000-bed hospital stands as a beacon of hope, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to provide specialized medical care at affordable rates.
Offering round-the-clock emergency services alongside specialized units such as ICU, ICCU, PICU, and NICU, the hospital further caters to the specific needs of patients requiring cardio-thoracic, vascular surgery, and hemato-oncological care. Notably, the hospital also extends its services to patients enrolled under the state government-sponsored Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) scheme, thus affirming its commitment to accessible healthcare for all.
