New Delhi: Sheyphali B. Sharan today has taken over as the Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau following the retirement of Manish Desai yesterday. Sharan, an officer of the 1990 batch of the Indian Information Service, boasts a distinguished career spanning over thirty years.
Throughout her tenure, she has primarily been involved in managing media publicity for various ministries, including Finance, Health and Family Welfare, and Information and Broadcasting, in her role as a Press Information Bureau officer. Additionally, she has served as the spokesperson for the Election Commission of India.
Sharan’s experience extends beyond her bureau duties. She has undertaken deputations under the Central Staffing Scheme, serving as Director in the Ministry of Health (Department of Traditional Systems of Medicine/AYUSH from 2002 to 2007) and the Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs from 2013 to 2017). She has also held positions such as OSD for Information Policy at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (from 2000 to 2002) and Director of Administration and Finance at LSTV, Lok Sabha Secretariat (in 2007-2008).
Upon assuming her new role, Ms. Sharan was warmly welcomed by senior officials of the Press Information Bureau.
