Bhubaneswar: Saroj Kanta Mohanty, a senior officer in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) and Chief General Manager (Personnel & Administration) at IDCO, was arrested by the Odisha Vigilance today. The arrest followed a comprehensive raid initiated yesterday, revealing a substantial accumulation of assets amounting to 153% more than what can be justified by his lawful income.
Mohanty, unable to provide satisfactory explanations for the identified assets, was taken into custody and subsequently presented before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, located in Bhubaneswar. The Odisha Vigilance registered a case, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No-38, dated 27.12.2023, against Mohanty and his spouse under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018.
The house searches conducted during the operation revealed a significant array of movable and immovable assets linked to the IDCO CGM and his family. These assets include a triple-storey building in Mahanadi Vihar, Nayabazar, Cuttack (approximately 6,200 sqft), a double-storey building in Brahmabarada, Dharmasala, Jajpur (approximately 3,300 sqft), a 3BHK Flat (No-103, Amrita Alayam) in Sailashree Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, another 3BHK Flat (No-201, Tower No-1) at Metro Green Woods, Patapur, Baranga, Cuttack, and ten plots, seven of which are situated in prime areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The seized assets also include gold jewelry weighing 703.38 grams, silver weighing 869 grams, bank, insurance, and postal deposits exceeding Rs 70.55 lakh, cash, a four-wheeler, two two-wheelers, and household articles valued at over Rs 20.88 lakh.
After an extensive search, inventory, and subsequent inquiry, it was determined that Mohanty possessed disproportionate assets (DA) amounting to 153% more than his known sources of income, as highlighted in a press release by the Vigilance department.
