Bhubaneswar: There was a celebration in the state BJP office following the massive electoral success of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. Party workers distributed sweets, exchanging greetings with one another. In the meantime, the Odisha wing of the BJP, which until now has failed to conquer the state, has been galvanized to a great extent. It is optimistic about replicating the success it achieved in all three states during the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The goal is to displace the longstanding Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government, which has been in power for the past 23 years. Union HRD minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on party’s hat-trick that it was not win but peoples’ blessings.
Former minister and state BJP president Manohan Samal confidently asserts that the outcomes of these elections will significantly reshape Odisha’s political landscape. Samal believes that the winning strategies employed in the aforementioned states will be applied successfully in Odisha.
Samal underscores the pivotal role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in current Indian politics, stating that there is no alternative to him. He attributes the BJP’s victories in the three states to the voters’ unwavering trust in Modi, highlighting the party’s success even without announcing a chief ministerial candidate. According to Samal, this strategy worked due to the people’s confidence in Prime Minister Modi.
Emphasizing the people’s faith in Modi, former union minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi predicts that Odisha’s upcoming elections will be influenced by the Prime Minister’s popularity, dismissing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as a viable alternative.

Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, BJP National Vice-President, supports this perspective, noting strong party support among Odia residents in neighboring Chhattisgarh. He strongly anticipates that Chhattisgarh’s significant victory will have a substantial impact on Odisha’s elections.
However, the ruling BJD remains unfazed , exuding confidence that election outcomes in other states will not affect Odisha’s political scenario.
In response, BJD leader Samir Ranjan Dash portrays Odisha as a unique state that consistently defies political experts’ expectations. Dash highlights Naveen Patnaik’s five consecutive victories and emphasizes the increasing vote share revealed in recent Panchayat results. Dash confidently asserts that national issues will have no impact on Odisha, expressing the public’s steadfast faith in BJD and CM Patnaik.
As conflicting political narratives unfold, only time will reveal whether the recent triumphs in other states will genuinely reshape Odisha’s political dynamics or if the BJD’s stronghold will remain unaffected by national influences.
