Bhubaneswar: According to the evening bulletin from the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, on Sunday, up to 10 locations in Odisha experienced temperatures of 39°C or higher, with Paralakhemundi reaching the highest at 40.5°C. Malkangiri recorded a temperature of 39.9°C, while Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur, and Nayagarh each reached 39.6°C. Bhawanipatna and Chandbali recorded 39.5°C, Baripada 39.2°C, and Kendrapara and Bhadrak each reached 39°C. Other areas also experienced high temperatures, with Angul and Jharsuguda at 38.9°C each, Talcher at 38.8°C, Titilagarh, Khordha, and Jajpur at 38.9°C each, Cuttack at 38.4°C, Nuapada at 38.2°C, and Rourkela and Sundargarh each reaching 38°C.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a special bulletin attributing the rising temperatures to prevailing dry air and intense solar radiation, forecasting an increase of 4°C to 6°C in daytime temperatures across Odisha over the next 4 to 5 days. Consequently, maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 40°C in many places, with some districts experiencing temperatures 3 to 5°C above normal.
Over the next 4 to 5 days, the IMD forecasts a gradual rise of 4 to 6°C in daytime temperatures across Odisha and an increase of 2 to 4°C in nighttime temperatures over the next 3 days in many places, followed by relatively stable conditions thereafter.
The weather agency advises caution when venturing outdoors between 11 am to 3 pm.
