Odia Language Conference To Be Celebrated In Urban Centers of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The first World Odia Language Conference is slated to delve into the historical, contemporary, and prospective dimensions of Odia, a language that has achieved classical status in India. Scheduled to take place at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar from February 3rd to 5th, the conference aims to chart a course for the language’s wider dissemination.

Anticipated participants include students, educators, researchers, intellectuals, and linguistic enthusiasts. A diverse array of activities has been planned to foster language promotion and cultivate interest among attendees, promising a deeply enriching experience that instills a sense of pride in Odia heritage.

In conjunction with this landmark event, the Department of Housing and Urban Development has embarked on a statewide initiative to celebrate Odia language across urban locales. Director of Municipal Administration, Sangamjit Naik, has corresponded with municipal commissioners and executive officers, urging them to ensure meticulous planning and execution of Odia language conventions in their respective jurisdictions.

Mr. Naik’s missive underscores the importance of extending the conference’s reach beyond Bhubaneswar, advocating for parallel events in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the state. He proposes several initiatives, including the installation of portraits honoring Odia literary luminaries, organizing programs to nurture local talent, and emphasizing Odia language usage in public signage.

To facilitate seamless coordination, Mr. Naik solicits regular updates and high-resolution documentation of the initiatives undertaken by ULBs. A virtual dialogue involving all ULBs reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to preserving Odia language, literature, and culture, signaling a unified effort towards linguistic and cultural preservation.
