Bhubaneswar: In a concerning incident in the Bharatpur area of Odisha’s Khurda district, a senior Odisha police official has fallen prey to a land fraud scheme, losing a substantial sum of Rs 20 lakh. The victim, Bibhuti Bhusan Rout, discovered a land sale advertisement in a newspaper and reached out to the individual behind it, who assured him of acquiring a parcel of land in the Jatni area.
Trusting the deal, Bibhuti Bhusan paid an advance of Rs 20 lakh to the alleged seller. Subsequently, both parties proceeded to register the land in the cop’s name at the sub-registry office. However, realizing he had been deceived, Bibhuti Bhusan filed a complaint about the land fraud at the Bharatpur police station in September of this year.
