IIT Bhubaneswar is prepared to launch fresh programs, several innovative courses for Fall 2024

Bhubaneswar: In alignment with the evolving technology landscape and industry demands, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar is introducing two new programs and multiple courses for the upcoming Fall 2024 term. Among the additions are an Interdisciplinary Blended-mode M.Tech. Degree in “Advanced Maintenance Technology,” tailored for industry engineers, and an M.Tech. Degree in “Semiconductor Technology and Chip Design” catering to regular students.

Blended-mode M.Tech. Degree in ‘Advanced Maintenance Technology’: Ensuring the timely upkeep of equipment and systems within industrial settings is crucial for sustaining operations, productivity, and quality standards. The newly introduced M.Tech. Program is designed to educate and equip engineers employed in various industries, aiming to bolster sustainability, productivity, and foster closer industry-academia collaboration. This interdisciplinary program offers a contemporary curriculum comprising pertinent and advanced courses spanning mechanical, civil, electrical, metallurgical, and materials engineering. Emphasizing maintenance challenges such as corrosion, welding, vibration, and structural integrity, it also delves into the development of digital twins for failure diagnosis. Interested individuals can find registration details at: https://webapps.iitbbs.ac.in/mtech_blended-app/.

Furthermore, the program explores the phenomenon of chaos in dynamical systems, with a specific focus on its study and practical application. A research group has recently unveiled a novel chaotic attractor, successfully trialed in select industrial systems for failure detection. This discovery holds significant promise in predicting and detecting failures within dynamical systems, underscoring its importance in industrial contexts.

M.Tech. Degree Program in Semiconductor Technology and Chip Design: India’s Semiconductor Mission (ISM) is catapulting the nation into a prominent position as a global electronics manufacturing and design center. Recent accomplishments include the establishment of a cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication plant and two Outsourced Assembly and Testing (OSAT) facilities, backed by a total investment of INR 1.25 Lakh Crore. These initiatives are poised to generate numerous technology jobs and entrepreneurial prospects, facilitating the production of advanced chips featuring 28 nm, 40 nm, and 90 nm transistors. ISM’s strategic emphasis on compound semiconductors such as Gallium Nitride and Silicon Carbide is tailored to address India’s requirements in defense, space, and Electric Vehicle (EV) technology.

To nurture skilled professionals and meet the burgeoning demand, the School of Electrical Sciences at IIT Bhubaneswar has launched an M.Tech. program in Semiconductor Technology and Chip Design. This program encompasses comprehensive training in design, fabrication, assembly, testing, packaging, and the development of IPs/ASICs/SoCs/Systems for specific applications. Admission details are accessible at https://webapps.iitbbs.ac.in/mtech-application/index.php.

Furthermore, in a bid to modernize its academic offerings, IIT Bhubaneswar has introduced a range of new courses, including a Minor in Economics, Micro-specialization in Software Engineering, entrepreneurship courses, and an array of contemporary open electives for both undergraduate and research students.

The establishment of the ‘Professor R.H. Tupkary Fellowship,’ funded by a generous donation of Rs. 1 crore from Prof. Brahma Deo, MGM Chair Professor at the Institute, is a testament to the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and legacy. This fellowship supports Ph.D. research, with current endeavors focusing on mental health disorders in collaboration with AIIMS, addressing a critical issue in India with the highest number of patients globally. Additionally, research on “Chaotic Dynamical Systems” has yielded insights that could significantly aid in disease analysis.

With these advancements in curriculum, pedagogy, and industry engagement, IIT Bhubaneswar is poised to foster stronger industry-academia partnerships, drive innovation in technical education and research, and empower students in their professional development journey.
