Bhubaneswar: In a significant political move, Chiranjib Biswal, the two-time MLA representing Jagatsinghpur and Sukanta Nayak, MLA from Nilagiri, have officially joined the ranks of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections in Odisha.
Following his resignation from the Congress party , Chiranjib Biswal, accompanied by his supporters, ceremoniously embraced the BJD fold today amidst a gathering of distinguished party leaders including Manas Mangaraj, Sasmit Patra, Priyabrata Majhi, and others. The joining took place at a specially convened event held at Sankha Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, symbolizing a strategic alignment within the state’s political landscape.
Chiranjib, scion of the Senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Basanta Biswal, has previously represented the Tirtol constituency in the Odisha Assembly in 2004 and later secured his mandate from Jagatsinghpur in 2014, thus marking a legacy of political acumen and service to the people.
In a parallel development, Sukanta Nayak, the incumbent MLA from Nilagiri under the BJP banner, swiftly switched allegiance to the BJD alongside his loyal supporters. The transition occurred under the watchful eye of senior statesmen such as Pratap Deb, Sasmit Patra, and others, reinforcing the momentum of the BJD’s growing influence.
Sukanta Nayak’s political trajectory has been marked by a dynamic interplay of affiliations, having initially served as a member of the Biju Janata Dal and clinched victory from Nilagiri in 2014. However, his subsequent stint with the BJP starting in 2019 seemingly reached a hiatus with his recent resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party, culminating in his return to the fold of the BJD.
These strategic realignments underscore the fluid dynamics of political alliances in Odisha, setting the stage for a compelling electoral contest as the state gears up for the impending assembly polls.
