Bhubaneswar: A three member delegation from Cameroon, led by Dr. Honore Djomo Kamga, the King of Bandjoun, undertook a two-day visit to Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA) on Sunday, to gain firsthand insights into the operations of a medical college with a teaching hospital.
Accompanying the King were Prof. (Dr.) Maurice Kengne Kamga, a Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg, Germany, and Mr. Innocent Takotue Fotso, the Principal Founder of the Hanseatic Institute of Technical and Applied Sciences (HITAS) in Douala, Cameroon.
During their visit, the delegation toured the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, a faculty of medicine at SOA. On Monday, they visited the SUM Ultimate Medicare and engaged in discussions with SOA’s Founder President, Prof. (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak, in the presence of SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda.
Expressing their impressions, Mr. Fotso stated, “What we have seen is quite impressive, and we plan to set up a similar medical college with a hospital in Douala, which is needed there.” SOA had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HITAS on February 23 for cooperation in training Cameroonian students at SOA and offering various courses in the university. Currently, 27 students from Cameroon are pursuing their studies at SOA.
The King of Bandjoun expressed interest in cooperation from SOA in establishing a medical college hospital in Cameroon. Additionally, patients from Cameroon may seek treatment at hospitals run by SOA in Bhubaneswar, thereby promoting medical tourism.
Prof. Nanda mentioned that the delegation visited various SOA institutes to understand their functioning. In the morning, the delegation visited the SOA National Institute of Law (SNIL), where the King of Bandjoun unveiled the book ‘Surrogacy Laws in a Globalized World’ authored by Prof. Sandipta Padhi, Assistant Professor at the institute. Prof. (Dr.) Maurice Kamga delivered a talk on ‘The ABC of International Laws for the Sea.’
Prof. Nachieketa K. Sharma, SOA’s Director of International Relations and University Outreach Program, welcomed the dignitaries and accompanied them during their tour of different institutions in SOA versity.
